April 2026 - Yelling at concrete - Open for regrets

April is a month of the year

Intro

It’s April and I’m quitting. Quitting declaring it’s April after this sentence.

Got yah.

March was short but long all at the same time and I cant explain it but for now here are a few chill things which happened this past month. Skip the catch up if you’re just hear for art.

Shows!

I went to so many gigs in March! It wasn’t the intention just kind of how they all landed, I ended up back to back at three live shows, The Hives, Gary Numan and Dessa all in the space of three days. You may or may not care but I thought it’s always a fun thing to recommend music and look into why I like them as artists but also to tell you about their support acts!

The Hives

The Hives are a band I rediscovered. We all grew up with “hate to say I told you so” but in recent years their live shows have gotten alot of attention and it got me back into their style. Pellee Almqvist their singer is one of the best live performers i’ve seen. With very strong comic timing and command of the crowd it’s a vibe of energy which even if you’re not a huge fan of the music you end up just enrapture by see example below.

This was not the show. They were playing sold out in Brooklyn in a huge venue but this energy was not lost.

They toured with Australian band, The Chats which was more traditional punk and honestly a hell of a dry raw sound for a three piece in such a big space.

Gary Numan

I mean please need I say anything.

Icon

His voice is literally just as solid and stage presence was epic and if you haven’t heard his recent music you’re missing out.

To set the tone though was a band call Tremours and I instantly picked up their shirt and album. Moody dark and a duo it was the right intro to what was essentially a dark wave three hours. Also through this show I learnt Gary Numan has a daughter who also makes music despite nepotism…is bloody good

Dessa

If you’ve read this letter for a while or Patreon you know i’m a fan of her work, politics etc etc I wont bore you but check out this track and then also check out.

But what was a highlight of this show was again the support, Lollise an afro funk artist who again just brought intense stage presence and some fun to what had been a heavy week!

This month as well i’ve been experimenting with posts, posting rather than my work just things which interest me, research i’ve been doing and exploring how and if that’s useful to people. One such post was about old music logos and gave me a good week of lamenting over how graphic modern design has killed personality in products. No one would have a photo as their logo now. It would be minimalist and dull and bold and streamlined. But remember RAK!?

RAK Records

We lost so much personality.

Podcast

Three this month! Wild long month. But first off we talked about documenting. Something I know Artists hate having to do. And yeh it was a little rant but also I hope carried that it doesn’t need to be complex or overly intense to do so. But also talked on how doing so can break your flow and if you miss the capture. That’s ok that’s being an artist.

Next up I spoke to Katie Weinstein from independent film space Raw Daises and I found this just a full on fun chat about movies, independent process and how skills from one space spill into another. They are a great company and I do recommend if you’re in the are of NYC or NJ to check out their events they look fun and they are trying something fresh which is always cool to support.

This one was a bit more for me than anyone else. A bit of a reminder to self to be reflective in a positive way. And Consider that the goal posts have moved in terms of our own success. What we thought impossible in the past is now our new standard and forgetting that just least to self dismissal. So if you’re feeling a bit underwhelmed and defeated maybe reframe that defeat and have a listen. Also Casper is in this vid quite a lot so if you like that enjoy!

Extra

And last but not least. I was in a gallery space again.

I was picked up again in Greenpoint Gallery which host an open Salon show in Greenpoint and participated in showing of some of my new work.

I’ve been trying and trying to keep ahead of my own personal dismissal and sit with work a little more rather than moving on to the next creation. Patreon posts have helped with that a bit but I might have to explore it a little more in vids as I’m better spoken than written but for now, enjoy some snaps from the night and have fun finding my work as most of what I showed has only been seen on Patreon and insta and even then not all of it!

Hope your month is good.
